Cottage-cation: Lewis Market and Petting Zoo

If you read this blog, you know we love this place too.  They get bigger and better each year.  They added several structures including a new barn with deer and ponies.  There were lots of baby animals around this time of year too - so cute.

Cottage-cation: White Pine Village

Tuesday we also decided to check out Historic White Pine Village.  We had never been here either.  We moved quite quickly through this multi-dwelling historical exhibit.  Brighton enjoyed touring around, but we didn't have much time to soak in all the interesting historical details of the exhibits.  You history buffs would love this place.  Maybe we'll head back when the kids are older.

Cottage-cation: Power Plant Edition

Tuesday we did some exploring around Ludington.  We had always wanted to stop and look around at the Ludington Pumped Storage Power Plant on Lake Michigan.  We learned a bit about how it worked, and we were able to look at the plant both down by Lake Michigan as well as way up top at the rim of the huge holding tank. 

Cottage-cation

The Walcotts spent last week at Silver Lake...upper Silver Lake to be exact.  Even though we are up here quite a bit, we spent the week here just the four of us, and that is a first. 

The water is over 80 degress, and there is plenty to do around here.  We started Monday with Moo School and a tour at The Country Dairy.  Jon had never gone, and when Brighton went he was just a little guy.  What a great time!  We love Country Dairy.

Brighton received a giant kiddie pool for his birthday back in May.  What a perfect gift...especially this summer!  We've all been in it, and the extended family has even visited to hop in and cool off.  Tilden has gotten quite used to the water too.

Heat Wave of 2012

We spent last week at my family's cottage.  It was The Fourth and The Heat Wave of 2012.  I woke up from the sounds of fireworks nearly every night all week, and then I went to back to spleep smiling that my kids didn't wake up, and I was more than thoroughly thankful for air conditioning.

5 Months Old

Dog + Door = Ouch!

I made one of those calls last week to Jon.  “Honey, don’t panic, but I need you to come home right now.” 

I cut my foot on the bottom corner of this beautiful storm door that Jon just installed.  I was loading the car in the garage when I made I contact with a scary looking unfamiliar dog in the back of my neighbor’s yard.  He proceed to sprint in my direction.  I didn’t panic because I was close to the door.  I went in the house, but as I turned around the dog was right there.  I pulled the storm door shut right on top of my foot.  It didn’t really hurt that badly, but when I looked down I realized right away I was going to need stitches.  Well, I hoped they would glue it, but no such luck. 

Thankfully my grandma was at the house, and hung out for a bit with the kids.  Jon rushed home and brought me to Urgent Care where I got four stitches.  I kept telling myself that I just birthed a child, that this couldn’t be that bad.  They are really great over at Holland Hospital Urgent Care, but I had the fear of the unknown.  I kept squeezing Jon’s hand waiting for it to get really bad.  It never did.  It was really the worst looking at it and thinking about it.

We survived the heat of last week at the family cottage.  But I couldn't go in the water!  Of all the week’s to not be able to cool off in the lake. Thank goodness for air conditioning.  Hope you survived the heat wave of 2012!

Swim School

Brighton finished "Swim School" over at Camp Geneva last week. He completed Preschool Level 1. He loved his teachers, and had a great time in the water eight times over two weeks.
