We celebrated Brighton's fifth birthday pirate-style this year.  It was a beautiful day to be outside, so Captain Brighton anchored his ship to celebrate at a local lakeside park.

 

 

We even had a treasure hunt.  

As you can see, the Walcotts really know how to have a good time and get into the pirate spirit!

We Love Our Mom

These are the flowers I received for Mother's Day this year.  Lots of bright colors...just the way I like them, and of course they were lovingly hand-made by my Brighton.  Then for your listening pleasure, you too can hear the song in the music card I received.  We're all still singing "We Love Our Mom!"  And that's just fine with me.

Our Very Own "Pomp and Circumstance"

Graduation seems to be on everyone's minds this time of year. Especially graduating from college and high school, and we have family members doing both. I'm used to it, because teachers like myself are in the final push. In our family, we experienced preschool graduation for the first time this week...even with the "Pomp and Circumstance." 
Brighton is finished with preschool!

That's right, Brighton is moving on to Kindergarten.  We were even able to spend some time at his new school already, and meet his wonderful teacher.  Summer comes first, and we're glad about that, but Kindergarten is going to be sweet.

Tulip Time 2013

The tulips were nearly perfect this year (it wasn't Stemfest 2012), and the weather was beautiful for the most part.  That is until Saturday, but we still decided to watch the parade.   It was really cold and wet (it rained off and on).  And we even got back out our winter clothes!  It was 40 degrees when we returned the car, but the kids loved it anyway.

We Kinda Love This Zoo

We went back to Binder Park Zoo again; I think we might have an annual spring tradition on our hands.  We loved our visit last year, so we decided to go again.  It's really something to look especially at Tilden when we visited Binder Park Zoo just one year ago; she obviously has changed the most!

This year we took the trip with some extended family.  From Brighton's perspective just about everything gets even better when his cousins are involved.  We fed the giraffes of course and had a wonderful time.  It was a beautiful day,  so we even followed our visit with a picnic lunch.  

 

Walcotts and the Warmer Weather

Just like everyone else in West Michigan we were thrilled when the temps finally became a bit warmer.  It took what seemed like forever, but spring finally arrived.  I suppose at least all of those April showers will bring May flowers (and green lawns).  We've been spending a lot of time outside and getting really dirty.  Everything outside is new for Tilden: following her brother down the slide, walking around with a ball, and even grass and dirt.  We've been getting play clothes really dirty and lovin' life.
