Post about Toast

Being a first time parent, I honestly really learn something new about my son and all that it takes to raise him everyday. For example, this weekend I bought him his first pair of "big-boy" shoes, and that took a lot of research, learning, and of course shopping too. Then we also fed him something new this weekend because he's really starting to love feeding himself finger foods: cue the Zwieback Toast. I'm really not sure why I bought it, but we've been giving lots of the Gerber Graduates stuff a try.

So, today after my son gnawed on a piece of Zwieback toast for about 20 minutes. I learned that at first glance it doesn't look like an item that will make a huge mess, but oh to the contrary my friends. I also did a quick online search and Wilkipedia taught me the following: Zwieback is a type of crispy, sweetened bread, made with eggs and baked twice. It is sliced before it is baked a second time, which produces crispy, brittle slices that closely resemble melba toast. Zwieback is commonly used to feed teething children. The name comes from German zwei ("two"), and backen, meaning "to bake" Zwieback hence literally translates to "two-bake".

I also learned very quickly he LOVES this stuff. Don't even think about cutting his Zwieback experience short. I will have to buy more really soon. So yes, I really do learn something new everyday. Could my son actually be making me smarter?

In and Out

Brighton turned 9 months old last week.

As a dear friend pointed out to me, Bright was in as long as he's been out. I have to say that him "out" has been much more enjoyable, and it's gone way faster too.

Oh my dear Brighton...where do I begin? Life has been full of new adventures over at our house. I can't believe how fast he learns. In a matter of a couple weeks he's advanced from creeping to crawling. He gives kisses and waves. He opens cupboards and empties them out. He feeds himself and actually chews. He pulls himself up on things and walks around furniture. Needless to say our lives as parents have really changed in the last few weeks too. I've been trying for just about that long to get some pictures or video of him doing his thing, but without much success. I was able to quickly snap this one when I found him inside the shower. Don't worry cousin Jenny, we'll try and get some more video of him on here real soon.

Brighton still has just one the tooth. You'll have to look closely, but I was able to finally get a picture of that too. We've been affectionately referring to it as his "toofer." I have no clue where that came from, but it's kinda stuck as he's had just the one tooth for quite some time now. I'm not sure what we'll do when he has two or more. Toofers?

What Are You Watching?

You can learn a lot about a person based on the television they watch. [Insert hesitation here.] This might be one of the posts I come to regret. Oh well, below I will expose my current television choices. That is of coures the television I hope I get around to actually watching. I couldn't watch any television if it wasn't for my Tivo. Did I mention how much I love my Tivo yet?

Anyway, the idea for this post all started when I posted on Facebook that I was off to watch Burn Notice with Jon. One of my students posted that he was shocked; he never thought I would watch that show. That incident prompted some contemplating; it's been on my brain. So, here goes...

Following are the shows that are recorded and saved weekly for me on my Tivo. I absolutely love some of them, and admittedly feel foolishly sucked into others. I will save my commentary and excuses for another time and place.

So I wonder dear friends, will I shock you? Surprise you? Disappoint you? What should be on my Tivo that isn't? What needs to go?

Bright's Hair

If you've followed Brighton in pictures since he was born, you know he was born with a lot of dark hair. People kept telling me he was going to lose it all, and although he did develop a pretty significant bald spot, he never really lost his hair. Many of you have observed that he has my hair color and Jon's curls - makes sense I guess.

Bright is also increasingly referred to as a little girl which really doesn't bother me much. Part is definitely my fault because I dress him in fun colors, and at least one of the other reasons has to be his hair. In the last couple months it had become so long in sections that it really looked as though it needed to be swept up with a barrette or bow. And it could; the proof is HERE.

So....Bright had his first haircut this week. The average person probably won't notice because Auntie J didn't cut too much off. Jordan did trim it a bit so it stays of of his eyes and cut off all that really fine stuff on the ends.

Bright sat super still and kept watching Jordan or looking at what she was up to in the mirror.

Maybe he'll get called a girl less now....maybe not. It doesn't so much matter. It was a very fun experience for all of us.

PS: No, I did not keep his hair.
