Skiing and Sledding

We received cross country skis for Christmas.  Yahoo!  So we found some for Brighton, and we headed out.  Tily got to ride :)

Ski Times Three

Jon and I took Brighton for another ski lesson. Happy to report he is getting more and more comfortable, and he is picking up speed. He really enjoys it too. 

Jon and I loved being able to ski together again. It had been 8 years! We are sooo looking forward to enjoying this with our children.

Snowcation 2014

So...we've had quite a bit of snow around here...understatement of the year, right?
We enjoyed many days full of snow with time spent inside and outside and of course several of those days off from school.  Here are some more of our adventures.  Some pictures we took simply document the sheer volume (or height) of the snow.  It certainly has been a winter to remember.

Winter Wonderland

We've been blessed with lots and lots of snow the last few weeks, so we've been making the most of it...in as many ways as possible.  Bring on the snowmen, snowshoes, sledding, snowmobiling, snow angels, and skiing!  Now,can arrange for more snow and maybe another day off from school?

Some Fun in Some More Snow

We got some more big time snow...again.  We headed out for some fun in the snow of course, but this time we brought Tilden too.  This mama was able to try out the Walcott family toboggan as well.  There was enough to make even make a suitable snow fort.  Good times!

At Least There's Ice

It is this family's opinion that if it's going to be cold there might as well be snow, but that hasn't been the case this holiday break. We had big plans to sled, snowmobile, and snowshoe. That will just have to wait until later this winter. But, we were able to go ice skating. It has been cold enough to freeze.  There is an outdoor rink a mile from our house which is super cool if you ask me. 
It was Brighton's first time hitting the ice. He has training ice skate with two blades under each foot; they just strap on to his own shoes.  He definitely needs some more practice, but he thought it was pretty cool, and so did this mama.

His Head Fell Off

What has been up with this winter weather here in Michigan?  We haven't had much snow, and then the day we do get some we have a massive thaw the next day or so.  Maybe you like that?  We're not all fans over here.  I have a husband who would love to snowmobile and a son who loves to play outside in the snow.  Bright doesn't understand why it so quickly disappears just after it arrives.
Last night Jon and Bright went outside for just a bit as the thaw had already begun, so they made a snowman; it's our first of the year.  When we woke up this morning the snowman's head had already fallen off. Nice.
The weather people said this time last year was that massive storm that closed schools for three days.  Wow!  What a difference.  It might reach 50 degrees today.
I better get this picture on here in case we don't have many more opportunities for snowman making.   

And just in case you were wondering, I am not writing this from the hospital.  I do have a doctor's appointment today, but there is no baby info or plan to pass along at this point other than we're doing fine...just waiting to meet her.

Snowmobiling, Sledding and Snow Forts

 A nice winter weekend brought a few inches of snow for us to play in.  We headed north where I stayed inside, but the boys lived it up in the snow.  They went sledding and built an igloo.  Brighton went snowmobiling on two occasions; they were slow and short trips just to make sure he likes it and stays warm enough.  He really likes it...go figure.  He was so comfortable that on the second trip he actually fell asleep.  Jon supported him as they meandered their way back.  Jon carried him in, and Bright took a two hour nap in his snow pants.  All this fun snow stuff wiped him right out.  Hope you had a fun weekend too!
