Brighton and our families were featured in the Holland Christian Connections magazine this month.  He is the fifth generation in our families to attend Holland Christian.  Four generations before him attended and graduated from HC.  In awe of God's faithfulness...

Cottagecation 2014: Big Sable Lighthouse

We hiked for the first time to Big Sable Lighthouse at Ludington State Park.  Brighton walked the whole way...round trip was over three miles.  It was a beautiful day; and it's a beautiful lighthouse.  The Lake Michigan temperature was the only thing that left a bit to be desired, but even that was kinda fun for the kiddos.

Jon took Brighton golfing for the first time.  Bright wasn't so sure it was going to be as fun as mini-golf, but he was pleasantly surprised.  Being able to drive the golf cart around was certainly a bonus.  Interestingly enough, Jon's grandpa took Jon golfing for the first time at this very course as well.

We joined our cousins for a hike to the beach at Saugatuck State Park.  It was a first for the three of us, even me.  Pure Michigan!

The Summer of the Ducks

Our ducklings were getting huge, so we made our playhouse into a temporary duck house.  That didn't last too long.  This week we released them.  We weren't sure how that was going to go, but it went OK.  The four are now three, but that wasn't a shocker to us.  We've been told that raccoons are a tough predator for them at night.  The ducks can't fly yet, but it shouldn't be long.  They are staying in the backyard and swimming in the pond. They don't want to have much to do with us (no more house and no more food). For now, we just watch them, and that's fun.  

The ducks are definitely my back to school summer story.  I can't believe we raised wild ducks, but we did.  The summer of 2014 will always be the summer of the ducks.
