Don't Drop it on the Brick

The Raterink family campfires have been few and far between since Brighton was born, but this past weekend we changed that. We rang in our first summer weekend at the cottage with a campfire, and we had giant marshmallows too. Have you seen them? They are seriously at least twice the size of a regular marshmallow. Bright thought they were balls that needed to be hit with his bat off the tee. Here he is eating his first smore.

My dad loves having campfires, and from the pictures you can tell he's glad they're back, but one of those things my dad says is, "Don't drop it on the brick." Marshmallow + brick patio = major mess.

Well, these giant marshmallows + brick patio would indeed = a GIANT mess. Both Jordan and Dan had some issues roasting and/or eating their giant marshmallows. I will leave posting the pics of those two online up to them. Let's watch their blog for those.

We all laughed so hard, and even so there were a couple instances where my dad just couldn't help himself and had to remind us. "Don't Drop it on the Brick." We survived, and although the giant marshmallows do provide some new challenges, they provided extra sugar, extra smiles, extra laughs, and an extra gooey time. And no, we came close, but none of us dropped a giant marshmallow on the brick, but summer just started.

Not Our Church Picnic

Our favorite church picnic is not that of our own church. What's up with that Harderwyk?

We have lots of ways to get an invite to the Bethany CRC picnic, and we got one again this year (we went last year too) even with Mom and Dad out of the country. They're back now, and just in time for Teusink's Farm. As long as we get an invite, we'll be there. What a fun way to kick off the summer.

Discovery of Dough

Good Grill. Good Price. Good Time.

Our grill always did the job, but it was kinda dinky and always left a bit to be desired.

It blew over more than once in the high winds we get over here, and then a few weeks ago we found a huge nest in it; it was quite impressive actually.

Anyway, time for a new grill.

We found a good grill at a good price, and then as you can see the boys had a good time putting it together. Looking forward to trying it out for the first time tonight.
