Christmas Cookies

From birth through age two Brighton was cared for by Dee a couple days each week.  Tily would be in her care now as well except that Dee retired from many many years of childcare; she now actually works at our church.  Until we arranged our current childcare for Tilden, I would tell everyone that I was desperately looking for a new Dee.
One of the things Dee missed most was making holiday cookies with her kiddos, so we all got together and did cookies together this past weekend.  It was great fun to do the cookies and just to all be back together again,  The kids loved it.  We even got a great picture of all of them.

These are some of college roommates: Angela Mulder, Kim Rubin, and Jo VanderPloeg. We still get together every couple months, and I just love those times.
We lived together in a home on Ridgewood Avenue near Calvin College. In this picture we are again in Grand Rapids celebrating Kim's baby on the way - baby boy Rubin. We had a fabulous time with many of the other ladies in Kim's life.

The next time we'll see her she'll be a mama! Congratulations Kimmy!

Ahoy Matey

The Walcotts got a taste of the sailing life this weekend. It was actually a first for all three of us. It has been many years since we've been out on the big lake, and for that matter, never in a sailboat. Our neighbors heard that Brighton likes boats, and they were kind enough to invite us to join them on a short sail. It was a beautiful night, and a very cool experience for us. We were all fascinated by the sails, ropes, and work that goes into each ride. Brighton ended up being lulled to sleep, so we snuggled watching the waves as the sun set. Jon actually drove the boat - not an easy task for a rookie. He also furled the jennie...I think that's what it is called.

The experience left us understanding why they enjoy it so much, and really in awe of the hobby. Ahoy Matey!

The Return of Kim Sue

My dear friend Kim came home for the weekend. I hadn't seen her since her wedding which was just two weeks after Brighton was born. Time has really flown by. We've both been adjusting to our "New Normal" the last four months. She's now married to Aaron, teaching at Penn State, and living in State College. I miss her big time.

We had a great time catching up Friday night. We went to Carraba's in Grandville with Jo and Angela, our Calvin College roomies. What a blast! We all have a GREAT time together.

BIG Weekend

The Walcotts had quite the weekend. Friday was our 5 year anniversary. We share that anniversary with several friends of ours. Hope you had a great day VZs. We also now share the date with Kim & Aaron. We attended their wedding at the Amway on Friday night. It was our first outing outside of an appointment at the pediatrician last week.

Kim & Aaron's wedding was beautiful. We had a great time, and I was so thankful that I was able to attend. We were able to visit and meet a lot of people including Aaron's family from Philadelphia. Kim & Aaron will be moving to State College, Pennsylvania after a two week honeymoon in Italy. We are ecstatic for them.

We were able to visit with lots of friends including Angela (my college roommate) and her husband Jon.

Dan & Jordan babysat Bright upstairs in our room while we were at the wedding and the reception. Kim told the Amway that we were celebrating our five year anniversary, so because we had celebrated our wedding at the Amway five years earlier they upgraded us to a beautiful suite.

Following our time at the Amway, we headed to the Raterink Cottage for the rest of the weekend. We hadn't been there in quite some time, and we missed Memorial Day Weekend because I was still in the hospital. We know Bright will grow to love this place as much as we do.

Jon got to finally wakeboard for the first time this year too.

Shower Day - Times Two

Last Saturday, (I realize I'm a bit behind here) I had two showers to attend: a baby shower for me and a bridal shower for my best friend Kim. It sure was a fun day.

The baby shower was thrown by a few of my friends (thanks so much gals!); it was great. It was neat to see some of my friends from different circles meet and interact. I heard many times, "You have such nice friends." Yes, I do! I received such great stuff along with a kids book instead of a card - what a great idea. We have a nice little library started for our "Little Stinker." Thanks so much everyone!

Kim's shower was tons of fun too. It was in Ferrysburg at a clubhouse with many of her girlfriends and her aunts and cousins too. I won one of the games. We had to draw kim in her wedding dress on top of our heads - not looking of course. I did my best, and then wrote "I love Aaron" at the bottom. Some thought I was cheating a bit, but words are my way - go figure...English and communications teacher.

What a fun day with fun women!
